Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is approaching, and it’s one of my favorite holidays. All of my family gets together and we basically have a potluck of delicious food at my house. I usually have to clean the dishes, but I don’t mind because I’m generally really glad that me my family had a chance to come together and enjoy a meal. During Thanksgiving dinner, all of my family goes around and says what we’re genuinely thankful for and discuss plans for the Christmas dinner. After eating, we usually all collapse on the floor or couches and either watch the football game, or fall asleep on full stomachs. Later on that night me, my sister, and my dad usually put up the Christmas tree, and decorate the house with lights, but this Thanksgiving is different. This Thanksgiving I have to work.

When I found out that I was scheduled to work on Thanksgiving, I tried to schedule time off for that day, but for some odd reason Thanksgiving is one of our busiest days of the year and I would be needed more than ever. I would even be in jeopardy of losing my job if I don’t show up.  It’s not enough that I have to work overtime on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day due to all of the appointments people set up with their stylist, but on Thanksgiving Thursday too! I simply don’t understand why people feel the need to get their hair done on Thanksgiving when the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before thanksgiving are available. I understand that people have busy lives and have recurring appointments on Thursdays,  but I think it’s not fair that I have to come into work on Thanksgiving Day; a day that I should be enjoying my family, friends, and watching the Lions lose yet another football game.

If the salon must be open that day then it should open and close early, in order to allow for those who have to cook, clean, and prepare dinner that day to do so. I shouldn’t have to come home late that night to a plate wrapped in saran wrap in the refrigerator for me. I shouldn’t have to look through my dad’s phone for pictures of events that happened throughout the day.  I shouldn’t have to hear that the lions lost again because I wasn’t there to see it. I shouldn’t have to work that day period!! This is ridiculous.
